The Monday Morning Blank Screen
You know that feeling when you open Instagram on a Monday morning, coffee in hand, fully ready to be a productive business owner, and then you just sit there staring at the little plus button? What am I supposed to post today?
For a long time I thought that feeling meant something was wrong with me. Maybe I wasn’t creative enough, or consistent enough, or maybe I just didn’t care about my business enough to have ideas on demand.
But the more I worked with content, mine and other people’s, the more I noticed that almost everyone hits that wall. It has very little to do with talent. We’re trying to think of ideas, make decisions, write and design all at once, on the same tired morning, and no brain loves that.
What helped me was separating the thinking from the doing. Once a month, I sit down with a notebook and a drink I actually enjoy, and I dump every idea out without judging any of them. Half are bad, a few are great, and most are somewhere in the middle. That’s fine, because the goal is not perfect ideas. The goal is to stop starting from zero.
Then I started noticing my ideas kept falling into the same few buckets. Things I wanted to teach, things that showed what working with me feels like, and things that were simply more personal. Once I could see those buckets, planning got so much lighter. I stopped asking what to post, and started asking what I hadn’t shared in a while.
One more thing, and it took me a while to learn this. Leave a little room. Your plan is not a contract, and some weeks get loud. I always keep two or three empty spots in the month, and honestly those spontaneous posts often turn out to be my favorites.
So if you only do one thing this week, find a quiet hour, write down every idea floating in your head, and sort them into three or four buckets. A notes app is enough. Future you, facing that blank screen next Monday, will be so grateful.
